At Palo Alto Dental Associates we'll perform a thorough examination of the teeth, gums, and chewing mechanism. We'll make x-rays, molds of your teeth and a record of the way you bite, and special computerized measurements of the joints and jaws. Additionally, we'll often use digital photography and intraoral video cameras to make pictures so you can see what we see.

We then make a cosmetic analysis of your teeth using scientific and artistic principles based on our examinations and diagnostic records. This step can't be omitted.

We'll consider why your teeth got in the condition they are in and what we must do to solve the causes. We'll consider your facial shape, skin tones, profile, gum positions and color, position, texture and shape of your teeth. If you have missing teeth or gaps, we'll determine the best way to make you whole again.

The result of all this diagnostic work is a treatment plan customized for you that solves or manages your problems while giving you the smile you've always wanted.

We'll often create in life-like wax what shapes and positions your teeth should have to let you see what results we are working towards before we ever start. We'll also use computer imaging to give you a preview of the possibilities for the new you.
